Tales by Candlelight

Long dark nights, warm firesides and cosy quilts – it's the perfect time of year to curl up with a good book! Many foreigners living in France miss being able to pop in to their local library or browse the shelves of a corner bookshop to find a good read in English.

Turning the pages

The AngloINFO Bookshop provides access to a selection of locally-relevant titles from Amazon.co.uk's extensive catalogue, with many categories including art, food, home and garden and regionally-relevant residents' and travel guides.

If you prefer to shop for books by browsing the pages and reading the blurb on the back cover, then have a look in the Books & Bookshops category of The AngloFILE to find a bookseller near you - there may be more than you thought.

Something many find surprising is how many local libraries have a selection of books in English. See Libraries & Book Exchanges in The AngloFILE for addresses in your area. Or you could visit your local médiathèque – many have English-language publications.

Finally, you can always use the AngloINFO Entertainment Forum to reach fellow anglophone locals if you have books to swap or give away, or if you are looking for someone who might be clearing out their own bookshelves.
